Professional hit songwriters visit area schools to teach, sing
Acclaimed professional songwriters take the gift of music to Escambia County, Fla., and Gulf Shores schools, performing songs written by area students in sessions Nov. 15 and Nov. 16.
The Words and Music program is conducted by the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in association with the 23rd annual Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival, which runs from Nov. 8-18 at venues along the Alabama Gulf Coast and Northwest Florida. Teachers who register for this program are given a Words & Music Lesson Kit that has classroom lessons that introduce students to the basics of songwriting. Once students have completed the lessons they write or co-write song lyrics themselves.
Through the 29 years of the program, students have written songs about love, pets, homework, friends, divorce, death, alcoholism, and topics completely from their imagination.
The completed songs are then given to a professional songwriter, who puts a selection of songs from a class to melody. Then, the songwriter meets the class to perform the songs and shares the life of a professional songwriter.

- Nov. 15, 9:30 a.m. Escambia High School Songwriters: C.J. Watson, Chris and Camille Wallin visit 50 guitar students at Escambia High School at 9:30 a.m., Nov. 15.
- Nov. 15, Gulf Shores (Ala.) High School, 8-9:30 a.m. Songwriter Belinda Smith, with 22 10th grade AP English students); Songwriter Bob Spanburgh follows from 10-11:30 a.m. with 27 10th-grade AP English students.
- Nov. 16, Pleasant Grove Elementary (Fla.) Songwriters: Deborah Adams and Karen Reynolds teach 50 fourth graders at 9 a.m., followed by Tammy Vice at 10 a.m. with 50 fifth-graders.
- Nov. 16, Blue Angels Elementary Songwriter: Casey Kelly with 350 fourth and fifth-graders 12:30-1:30 p.m.
- Nov. 16, Gulf Shores Middle School (Ala.) 1:30 p.m.-2:15 p.m., Songwriter Tim Buppert with 200 7th graders; Songwriters: Lynn Langham and Doug Gill from 2:15 -3 p.m. with 200 8th graders.

List of hit songwriters, events growing for festival
Perdido Key, Fla. Perdido Key, Fla. You might not know their names, but their music is probably playing on your stereo. The list is growing of more than 300 acclaimed songwriters who have crafted some of the biggest hits in modern music.
From Nov. 8-18 for the 23rd annual Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival, Grammy Award-winning artists, No. 1 hit writers and up-and-coming young performers play their songs at intimate Gulf Coast settings.
Songwriters play venues in Bon Secour, Foley, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Josephine, Ala., and in Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, Innerarity Point and Perdido Key on the Florida side.
The Words and Music School Program returns with hit-songwriters bringing the gift of songwriting to area schools Nov. 14,15, and16.
Who’s playing? Here’s a sampler:
- Chris Wallin - Chart success and numerous cuts, most recently, was his No.-1 hit singles with Toby Keith "Love Me If You Can", Kenny Chesney's "Don't Blink" and Montgomery Gentry's "Something To Be Proud Of." Also top five hits with "I''m Tryin" by Trace Adkins, and "Speed" by Montgomery Gentry.
- Bob DiPiero - Vince Gill, Montgomery Gentrie are among the singers of 14 hits DiPiero has written. Check out the credits for George Strait's "Cowboys like Us", Martina McBride's, "There you Are", and many more.
- Jeff Stevens - recorded nine Top 5 songs and three No. 1 country hits. Clay Walker recorded his, "I Wanna Feel That Way Again", and George Strait played, "I Get Carried Away".
- Kelley Lovelace - Two No. 1 country hits back-to-back and 3 top 40 billboard hits.
- Kate York - A modern rock and country music artist, has had songs on "Gray's Anatomy" and others recorded by Mindy Smith and Nelson Hubbard. Sessions also include Angela Hacker and Zac Hacker, who are the respective winner and runner-up of "National Star 2007."
- More special events will be announced along with the lineup of artists.
The list includes rockers and acclaimed performers, Marc-Alan Barnette along with country songwriting greats, Hank Cochran, Sonny Throckmorton, Larry Butler. Larry T. Wilson, Rusty Golden and more.
Popular regional artists include:
- Cher Lyn Bragg - inked a record deal with the development division of Universal MCA, Platinum Plus Universal Records in Nashville. Her debut album, entitled "Nothing But My Earrings On," is being released.
Southeast Tourism Society named the songwriters' festival to its Top 20 Events.
The festival has a line-up of special shows, special concerts, songwriting seminars and a celebrity golf tournament.
- Songwriters Kickoff, Nov. 7 - Local songwriters bust out the music at Hub Stacey's on Innerarity Point, Nov. 7.
- Songwriters Guild Foundation seminar, Nov. 10 - The Island House Hotel in Orange Beach, Ala 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Songwriters Guild Foundation, with the Songwriters Guild of America, presents, "The Write Key," an intense one-day personalized experience for songwriters. It is followed by an SGA Hit Songwriter Showcase starting at 7 p.m.
- Celebrity Golf tournament - Swing with the songwriters at Perdido Bay Country Club for the Frank Brown Celebrity Golf Tournament on Friday, Nov. 16. - RadioLive at the Pensacola Museum of Commerce. Nov. 8 & Nov. 14 - The WUWF Radio broadcast features a live concert from the museum in downtown Pensacola. Nov. 8 show features the fore-mentioned Chris Wallin and Camille Wallin, C.J. Watson and friends. The Nov. 14 show features Jerry Salley, Larry Cordle and Carl Jackson.
- Gospel Concerts Nov. 11 - Choose between two nearly simultaneous gospel concerts on Nov. 11. A high energy 7-piece gospel soul band, "Nu Image Gospel" plays at the Belmont Arts Center in Pensacola at 1:30 p.m., while another concert is featured at Perdido Bay United Methodist Church at 2 p.m.

Songwriters flock to NW Florida and Alabama Gulf Coast
Perdido Key, Fla. More than 300 acclaimed songwriters who have crafted some of the biggest hits in modern music converge on the Gulf Coast from Nov. 8-18 for the 23rd annual Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival.

DURING

sessions at "The Write Key"
on Nov. 10 at The Island House Hotel in Orange

Tenn. (Oct. 2007) –Songwriters will have the opportunity to improve their
songwriting skills and learn to maximize the creative process during an
intimate, small-group workshop hosted by The Songwriters Guild Foundation, in
conjunction with The Songwriters Guild of America, during the Frank Brown
Songwriters Festival on Sat., Nov. 10 at The Island House Hotel in Orange
Beach, Ala.!
During
The Write Key, hit
songwriters will guide attendees through the hit-songwriting process, as well
as outline the steps needed to take their music to the next level now and in
the changing music scene. The one-day session includes panels, personalized
song critiques, lunch, and an evening hit-songwriter showcase! This is a rare
opportunity for aspiring songwriters to work closely with hit songwriters and
advance their songwriting career!
Highlighting
the day will be SGA President Rick Carnes (whose 26 multi-platinum hits include Garth Brooks "Long Neck Bottle" and Reba's first number one smash "Can't Even Get the Blues") who will share some of his secrets to the creative process, as well as his insights of the changing music business culture. Other hit writers and presenters include Casey
Kelly ( "Soon"/Tanya Tucker and "The Cowboy Rides Away"/George Strait) and Todd Cerney ( "I'll Still Be Loving You "/Restless Heart" and "Good Morning Beautiful"/Steve Holy). More hit writers and special guests to be announced!
The
early-registration rate for The Write Key is $95 for Songwriters Guild of America members, $115
for non-members. After October 26, the rate increases to $145 for SGA members,
$165 for non-members. The registration fee includes all seminar sessions and
critiques, lunch, and the SGA hit-songwriter showcase. In addition, The Island
House Hotel is offering a special discounted room rate for The Write Key attendees. Details will be provided upon
